Beach Tennis Love: Mini Test-Run Tournaments in Santa Monica!

Over the last few weeks, Beach Tennis Love has been running a couple of test-run mini tournaments right here in Santa Monica. Both tourneys featured an Americano-style format: you play in doubles, but compete as an individual, with the ultimate winners being the players with the most total games won.

The BTL "Burn it Down" Tournament (Feb 27th)

Our first one featured a 10-player men's roster. We set up at two courts and had a lot of fun. A huge shoutout goes to local players Bob and Efrain for taking 1st 🥇 and 2nd 🥈, respectively!

The BTL “Soft Launch” Tournament (March 13th)

Following the success and garnered interest in the first tourney, we opened things up this past Friday for our Soft Launch. We expanded the roster to 20 players (14 men and 6 women signed up) and took over 4 courts. To keep things fair and fun in a co-ed setting, we added a mixed modification: whenever a team with a male player faced an opposing team with a female player, the serve had to be underhand.

We also upped the stakes this time around! A $5 entry fee went into a cash prize pool for the top three players. Everyone had fun, and the matches were incredibly close. Newer player Matheus came out on top taking home the $50 grand prize, returning champ Bob secured 2nd ($30), and William snagged 3rd place ($20).

Beach Tennis Love looks forward to hosting more of these local tournaments soon. Next up, we're thinking about running a Mixed Americano style with separate Men's and Women's playoffs. Stay tuned!
